3. Supergirl, “Far From the Tree” (Oct 23rd)

The brave little Kara goes to Mars. J’onn tries to convince his father that running away from the aliens that killed his entire race was a good thing – something that takes a SURPRISING amount of work. David Harewood really sells it, though, and their dynamic works once it turns sweet. Plus, Supergirl gets some fun CGI-butt-kicking action. The B-story with Maggie’s father doesn’t totally work, as his actions and motivations aren’t super clear. While the CW is clearly saying homosexuality is okay, and Maggie’s father seems to think so, he still hates her for the “choice.” It’s confusing how the CW wants us to feel about him. That said, the stuff with Alex & Maggie specifically is sweet, and I’m always in the mood for more Barenaked Ladies on the show. Come on, CW, we need that cameo!

SCORE: 7.5/10 Convertibles
