‘Beetlejuice 2’ is Still a Thing And Has Hired a New Writer

Beetlejuice 2 is still apparently a thing that Warner Bros. wants to happen, and now they’ve brought in a new screenwriter to try and get this thing off the ground.

According to the Deadline report, Mike Vukadinovich, whose credits include a 2017 Sundance sci-fi film Rememory and Marvel’s upcoming TV series Runaways, will pen the long-gestating sequel.

As for the more important elements of this possible sequel, neither Tim Burton nor Michael Keaton have come on board as of yet. Both of them are working on Disney’s live-action Dumbo film (sigh) at the moment, and they have expressed interest in Beetlejuice 2 in the past. Winona Ryder went so far as to say this was a done deal over two years ago, but that clearly fell through somewhere along the way.

Then there’s the all important question: do we really need this? Beetlejuice felt like a fairly self-contained story that’s shown its age over the years. It doesn’t seem like audiences would be all that excited to see the continuing adventures of the crusty bio-exorcist. Plus, don’t we need Michael Keaton to spend these years starring in better films than a sequel to a thirty-year old property? Maybe it’s just me, but let’s redirect these assets elsewhere.
