Another interesting name is popping up for the Star Wars’ Han Solo film in actor Thandie Newton.
If signed, the Westwood star would be joining an already loaded cast with Donald Glover (as Lando Calrissian), Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Alden Ehrenreich playing the title role, according to Variety. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Also in talks is Fleabag actress Phoebe Walker-Bridge, but it’s currently unknown who Walker Bridge or Newton would be playing.
Newton is coming off of SAG and Golden Globe nominations for Westworld. She’s been a staple on TV with her time on Rogue and ER. She’s also had franchise experience with her involvement in Mission: Impossible II and The Chronicles of Riddick.
Expectations will be high given the bar already set by The Force Awakens and now Rogue One setting the stage for future anthology films. It follows Disney and Lucasfilms’ ambitious plan of continually releasing a Star Wars film annually. Disney already averages 1-2 films annually with the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2010. 2017 will be the first time three films will be released.
If confirmed, do you think Newton will play someone from the Expanded Universe?
The Han Solo film hits theaters May 25, 2018.
