James Earl Jones To Voice Darth Vader In ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

This report is still at the rumor stage, but Making Star Wars is reporting that 84-year-old James Earl Jones will voice Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

No official announcement has come from Disney or Lucasfilm.

The story continues that Brian Muir, the man that sculpted Darth Vader’s helmet for 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope has recreated the Darth Vader costume for Rogue One. There is no word on how big a part Vader will have in the film or who will wear the costume.

Disney does have plans for Darth Vader past Rogue One, as they plan to release a Star Wars film once a year, with no end date in sight.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards, and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen (IP Man), Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen of Hannibal fame, Alan Tudyk (as a motion capture character), and Riz Ahmed.

This is a prequel to the original 1977 Star Wars, dealing with rebel efforts to convey Death Star blueprints to Leia Organa. The screenplay is by Chris Weitz, and the film is due in theaters on December 16, 2016.
