Geekflix – Top ‘Netflix’ Picks For April 2017

March is almost over, which means you probably should get a Shamrock shake before they go away. Also, it’s time to look at the new titles which are coming to Netflix in April. With all the spring showers coming, you’ll need to find some good titles to enjoy while you stay inside. Of course, you never really need an excuse to binge but it’s always a good idea to make sure you are watching the best shows and movies for your geeky pleasure.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (April 1st)

Nightmare on Elm Street
“One, two, Freddy’s coming for you…” This is the classic nursery rhyme which let you know Freddy Krueger is on the prowl. The dead child killer finds a way to a way to come back and take his revenge. If you haven’t taken the time to be scared by this knife handed psycho, then you should probably try once.

An American Tail (April 1st)

An American Tail
This animated classic from the 80s and its sequel are coming to Netflix. This movie is one of director Don Bluth’s seminal works. Just stop after the second film though. The straight to video sequels aren’t the best.

Gremlins (April 1st)

Movie Theater
Remember the three rules. Don’t expose them to light. Don’t get them wet. Don’t feed them after midnight. If you don’t follow the rules for proper Mogwai ownership, you are going to have a bad time. Watch as little Gizmo causes a lot for a small town when the rules are broken but he’s so cute you’ll still want one of your own.

Tropic Thunder (April 1st)

Tropic Thunder
When going for authenticity you’ll want to make sure you don’t use actual land mines. This film may have some questionable moments buts it’s one of the funniest movies you’ll ever see. The over the top performance by Tom Cruise makes the entire thing worth watching.

Kubo And The Two Strings (April 8th)

Laika studios just can’t catch a break. They keep presenting fantastic films but just don’t get the recognition they deserve at the Oscar’s. Their latest film is gorgeous bit of animation with a deep and beautiful story behind it. If the academy can’t give them the respect they deserve, the Netflix viewers can at least.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow: Season 2 (April 12th)

Just in case you miss the season finale on April 4th, all you have to do is wait a little more than a week to check the ending. Or watch the whole season from the beginning. If you do you’ll get a chance to see the Legends without Captain Hunter and a face a new threat in the Legion of Doom. Also, witness the most epic crossover ever as Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and the Legends all come together to fight aliens.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return (April 14th)

Mystery Science Theater 3000
“In the not too distant future…” The robots forced to watch terrible movies are back with a brand new human (add actor). The crowdfunded new season aims to bring a whole new group of fans to the franchise. This series comes highly recommended by the Monkeys Fighting Robots crew.

Bill Nye Saves the World (April 21st)

Bill Nye
Bill Nye is back and trying to teach us a thing or two. Tune in and enjoy one of the best educational hosts who taught an entire generation the joys of science. In this day and age a little more knowledge wouldn’t hurt anything.

The Prestige (April 21st)

The Prestige
Christopher Nolan once again tries to mess with our minds in this film about magic. Watch as Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play rival magicians trying to outdo one another. Also look for an appearance by the late great David Bowie as Nikola Tesla.

The Secret Life of Pets(April 22nd)

This movie has something for everything. For the kids it has a bunch of cute animals. For the adults, there is Kevin Hart as a psychotic rabbit. Watch as a dog named Max has to deal with a new addition to his household and go on a fantastic journey in the process.
